In the community of Calichito, in the municipality of San José de Comayagua, children are participating for the second consecutive year in Honduras Rising’s Music for All program.
The program brings music education opportunities to children and young people in rural and geographically isolated areas, where access to this type of education is limited. In Calichito, classes are held both in person and virtually, allowing students to continue their learning throughout the year.
Students receive instruction in piano, guitar, violin, recorder, and choir. They continue to develop their skills with the support of Honduras Rising’s music teachers and through the collaboration of students from the Music program at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH). The school’s teacher also takes part in monitoring the group and coordinating activities.
The collaboration between Honduras Rising, UNAH, and the school, together with the students’ discipline and commitment, has helped strengthen the program in the community and ensure continuity in the musical education that began the previous year.
For Honduras Rising, bringing Music for All to places like Calichito is part of a broader effort to expand access to educational and cultural opportunities for children and young people in municipalities and rural areas where such opportunities are less accessible.
